''...is that a carrier I hear?''

News about the W1CKD repeaterWell, what can I say beyond "we're back...again!"? As it is rather late while I write this, I will post a complete set of details and info you need to know a little later.

*** UPDATE *** The trip up to the hill was a big success! The new Astron RM-50M power supply went in without a hitch and the repeater was back up and running at 11:30am on Friday (October 28th, 2005). Other things accomplished:

The 6 meter remote base is back up and running. Receive audio and squelch need to be adjusted, but that should be taken care of Monday (October 31st, 2005). Codes for 6 meter remote base operation can be found HERE. With the remote base a user can connect to the K1AAM 53.37 machine in Naples, 52.54 simplex or 52.525 national simplex. Channel selection on the remote base radio is accomplished using the proper codes. When turning on the remote base with 52.525 selected or when switching to 52.525 after the remote base is already on, you must use the 6 meter transmitter on code to transmit on 52.525 (this was done to keep unintentional repeater traffic off of the 6 meter national simplex calling frequency). What ever frequency the remote base radio is left on, someone on that frequency can use the 6 meter remote base up code to connect to the repeater. I will probably designate a frequency that the remote base will listen to automatically when the remote base link is turned off, I need more time to figure out which one would be best.

6 meter Cushcraft Ringo with 50ft of coax was added (fence post mount) courtesy of G6DHU.

Components were moved around in the rack to make things easier to access.

PA power out adjustments for the UHF and 6 meter PA's were done to keep the total current consumed during transmit of all radios to 32 amps (the new power supply is rated at 37 amps continuous).

A new connecter was put on the control radio's coax at the antenna end to replace a defective one.

A new 6ft jumper of 9913 was added between the repeater duplexer and lightning arrester.

Lug connectors were placed on all power leads.

Control radio was moved to port 3 on the controller to allow the 6 meter remote base to use existing programming on port 2. After moving to port 3, a bad solder joint on the audio input was discovered making serious noise on the port. It was resoldered and the problem was fixed.

Programming on the controller was changed and a computer backup of the current programming was taken.

Chuck - N1MSA took the temperature sensors home with him so that he could wire them up and insert them in an enclosure to put at the site. He should have them completed and returned to me to have them installed when I head up the hill again Monday (October 31st, 2005).

I'll post more after things have been completed Monday.

Stay tuned!

73 de Keith - N1FTE
